SUBJECT: I am participating in AIDS Walk New York 2008!

Dear Friends and Family,

Did you know that,

• in the U.S., between 40,000 to 60,000 people are newly infected with HIV every year?
• half of those newly infected are under the age of 24?
• 25% of those newly infected do not know it?
• New York cases account for approximately 18% of all HIV cases in the U.S.?

Despite advancements made in the treatment and prevention of HIV, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the overall rate of infection continues to rise. Today, there is still no vaccine in sight and vital government funds face the threat of being redirected.

AIDS Walk New York is a 10 kilometer walkathon that benefits Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC), in addition to 60 other local AIDS service organizations in the Tri-state area. For the past 25 years, GMHC has been dedicated to providing equal access to healthcare, prevention education, and advocacy to their clients, regardless of ability to pay.

Join me Sunday, May 18, in making a meaningful difference in the lives of people struggling with HIV/AIDS. This is my [#] year participating in AIDS Walk New York and the fight is not over.

By pledging to be a Star Walker, I have set a goal to raise [FUNDRAISING GOAL]. I am hoping that you will help me go above and beyond in my fundraising efforts to support the services provided by Gay Men’s Health Crisis.
